There are numerous complications that can occur in either the husband or wife preventing them from conceiving. In some cases we believe it necessary to obtain knowledge on your circumstances so you know what to pray for. You can pray for healing over complications and you can speak to your body and command in Jesus' name how it should function for conception to take place.

Infertility

Psa 128:2-4 You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table. Thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD.

Many couples take the conception of their children for granted because they 'assume' they will conceive when they want to. For some couples, conception occurs easily, while for others no amount of money, love or medical intervention will bring this desired event to pass. Unfortunately there are numerous complications, which can occur in either the husband or wife that prevents them conceiving.

The human body is extremely complex, and for conception to occur there are certain functions necessary that our bodies need to perform. Firstly, the male must be able to produce and release enough healthy and mobile sperm to travel to the egg, and the female must be able to produce and release mature eggs (follicles) capable of being fertilized, as well as produce the mucus propels the sperm to the egg; have clear fallopian tubes for the transport of the fertilized egg (ovum) to the uterus, and the uterine lining (endometrial lining) needs to be suitable for implantation and nourishment of the fertilized egg. Hormones then prepare the body for the growth, development and maintenance of the pregnancy. If any part of this process is hindered then conception may be close to impossible.

God’s Promises on Infertility

Exo 23:25-26 Worship the LORD your God, and His blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you, and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span.

Deu 7:12-14 (Deu 30:9, 28:11 similar). If you pay attention to these laws and are careful to follow them, then the LORD your God will keep His covenant of love with you, as He swore to your forefathers. He will love you and bless you and increase your numbers. He will bless the fruit of your womb, the crops of your land--your grain, new wine and oil--the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks in the land that He swore to your forefathers to give you. You will be blessed more than any other people; none of your men or women will be childless, nor any of your livestock without young.

Gen 49:25 because of your father's God, who helps you, because of the Almighty, who blesses you with blessings of the heavens above, blessings of the deep that lies below, blessings of the breast and womb.

Gen 28:3 May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples.

Lev 26:9"I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you."

Psa 113:9 He settles the barren woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the LORD.

Psa 128:2-3 You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours. Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your sons will be like olive shoots around your table.

Isa 49:21-23 Then you will say in your heart, "Who bore me these? I was bereaved and barren; I was exiled and rejected. Who brought these up? I was left all alone, but these--where have they come from?'" This is what the Sovereign LORD says: "See, I will beckon to the Gentiles, I will lift up my banner to the peoples; they will bring your sons in their arms and carry your daughters on their shoulders. Kings will be your foster fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers. They will bow down before you with their faces to the ground; they will lick the dust at your feet. Then you will know that I am the LORD; those who hope in me will not be disappointed."

Isa 41:18 I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools of water, and the parched ground into springs.

God’s Command

God created every single one of us with a perfect plan. We did not evolve! Every bone, muscle, tissue, and organ including those in our reproductive systems. God the creator, is also God the healer. If you have any problems in your reproductive system then God can heal you! It is God's design for us to reproduce. He created us to have children. One of God's first commands to man, was for us to reproduce by having children. It is His will and blessing for us and His word says He adds no trouble to His blessings.

Gen 1:28
God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

Gen 9:7
As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it."

James 1:17
Every good and perfect gift (in this case children) is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Psa 127:3
Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from Him. (NAS) Behold, children are a gift of the Lord; The fruit of the womb is a reward.

Psa 115:14 May
the LORD make you increase, both you and your children.

You Are Not Alone!

There are several women in the Bible who could not conceive. These women cried out to God for healing and He answered them by opening their wombs! God does not show favoritism, what He has done for the following couples, He can also do for you.

Gen 25:21
Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was barren. The LORD answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.

Gen 29:31 & 30:17 & 22 When
the Lord saw that Leah was not loved, He opened her womb, but Rachel was barren. God listened to Leah, and she became pregnant and bore Jacob a fifth son. Then God remembered Rachel; He listened to her and opened her womb. She became pregnant and gave birth to a son and said "God has taken away my disgrace."

1 Sam 1:27
I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of Him. (Hannah)

Luke 1:36,37
Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God.

Heb 11:11
By faith Abraham, even though he was past age--and Sarah herself was barren--was enabled to become a father because He considered him faithful who had made the promise.

God is Creator

We know a woman who suffered from feelings of rejection. She was the result of an unplanned pregnancy. One night when she was praying she was given a vision. She saw an egg in her mother's womb and a hand was guiding a single sperm to the egg. God then said to her, "I planned you, I even hand picked the sperm. I made you". God is the maker of everything, including our children. The Scriptures below confirm this. Pray for your baby that it is being properly formed, every part, without abnormalities, defects, or diseases. Also pray that your placenta is attached firmly in the perfect position on your uterine wall (not the fallopian tubes) and that it will function perfectly throughout the pregnancy and delivery, supplying your baby with all of its needs.

During my second pregnancy, with Aidan, I felt led by the Holy Spirit to pray for protection from Downs Syndrome. I prayed that God would be true to His Word, that He would knit and form my baby perfectly in my womb. After Aidan's birth, a midwife showed me the palms of his hands. Parallel to where his fingers joined the palm, was a single straight line (where most of us have two curved lines). This line is called a "simian crease" and is common in babies with Downs Syndrome. It is very rare for normal babies to have this crease. My son was given a clean bill of health. I am so thankful the Holy Spirit guided me in my prayers. I don't want to instill fear in you, this is not my point. My point is you should ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in your prayers, and show you what to pray for when necessary.

Isa 44:24
"This is what the LORD says -- your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb: I am the LORD, who has made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself."

Psa 139:13-16
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Jer 1:5
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

Job 33:4
The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

Isa 29:23
When they see among them their children, the work of my hands, they will keep my name holy; they will acknowledge the holiness of the Holy One of Jacob, and will stand in awe of the God of Israel.

Isa 43:7
everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made."

Isa 46:3,4
"Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all you who remain of the house of Israel, you whom I have upheld since you were conceived, and have carried since your birth. Even to your old age and grey hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you."

Psa 100:3
Know that the LORD is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture.

Isa 43:1
But now, this is what the LORD says --He who created you, O Jacob, He who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine."

Mal 2:10,15
Have we not all one Father? Did not one God create us? Why do we profane the covenant of our fathers by breaking faith with one another? Has not the LORD made them one? In flesh and spirit they are His. And why one? Because He was seeking godly offspring. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.

Planning Your Family

Some of you may desire to have a child of a particular sex. If this is the case then you should be praying for your choice before conception because it is too late once you are pregnant. The moment a baby has been conceived its sex has already been determined and no prayer, or confession will change it. God's word says if you ask, then you will receive the desires of your heart, but He also says;

Rom 8:29
.....For those God fore knew He also predestined.

Trust God with your family, for He knows the "big picture". Therefore whatever sex your child is, boy or girl (or the amount of children God has given you), this is His perfect plan for your life. That child is as real as you are and God will not change your baby's sex, just like He would not change yours. Julie's husband, Graeme, was the result of an unplanned pregnancy. The circumstances surrounding his conception were not desirable and his mother never married. They lived in a small town and the gossip and slander was cruel. Shortly after Graeme became a Christian he was given a
word of knowledge’ at a church service by the pastor. God stated that He loved Graeme, and that He had planned his life and his birth was not an accident. The pastor who spoke this didn’t know Graeme’s background. God plans ALL of our children. Not one of them are a mistake. They are a perfect gift from God, planned or unplanned by their parents. We have read in several Christian counseling books, of many people dealing with rejection. This stemmed from their parents being disappointed that they weren't a particular sex, or that they were the result of an unplanned pregnancy. If you have done this, it can easily be reversed by praying over your baby and asking for forgiveness. We both prayed over all our babies when they were in the womb, that they would be protected from all physical and emotional harm. The Bible tells us that the moment we are conceived, we have a spirit (even though our bodies have not yet been formed). This means that we can sense things in our mother's womb. The 'spiritual' bond between mother and baby is very strong. Therefore nurturing begins in pregnancy, not after the birth. If you find it hard to 'connect' with your baby then pray for 'bonding'. Ask God to give you love for your child, after all He has given it to you.

The Bible called those who were unable to conceive "barren". Today the terms "infertility" or "sterility" are used. While the terms may have changed, the pain and frustration felt through this painful journey has not.

Definitions

The definition of the term "infertility" is the failure to conceive after a year of unprotected intercourse. (Infertility, or secondary Infertility, can also occur in a couple that has conceived previously.) "Sterility" is the term given when conception is impossible due to irreversible problems such as genital abnormalities, disease, poor quality, or quantity or immobile sperm, poor quality, or quantity of ovum (eggs), abnormal ovulation, hormone imbalances or surgery restrictions.
