The following information will help you how to prepare and pray for yourself for your conception, pregnancy, birth and postnatal period!
Why Pray?
The Apostle Peter said that we should not be surprised when we go through trials.
1 Pet 4:12 Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you.
We were never told that we wouldn't face complications. Life is not without problems and Christians can experience life with all of its ups and downs. This can also be true in regard to conception, pregnancy and childbirth. You might have an easy time without any complications or you can have a continuous battle fighting off morning sickness, threatened miscarriages, or other things like blood pressure problems. Why we need to fight at some times, and sit back and relax at others, is very much a mystery. One thing we know for certain is that for the things in life that are important such as your health and well being (and your baby’s), then these are the times you need to be prepared. Therefore, I encourage you to be pray for your pregnancy, labor, childbirth and postnatal period preferably before you plan to conceive!. Especially if you need a miracle to conceive, to carry your baby full term, or you are believing for a natural labor without any medical intervention.
Praying in advance is not only protection but it will strengthen your faith, so if complications do arise, then you will have a foundation to stand on. It is so much easier to enter a battle when you are prepared, because you will have an inner strength and will have built your faith to receive. The Lord gave me analogy of preparing in prayer during my first pregnancy. Preparing in prayer can be compared to an athlete! Think about it, an athlete wouldn't run without preparation, otherwise they might not have the stamina to finish the race. They prepare a plan (prayer points). They build their strength (faith). They practice (pray) and spend time training their body and mind (studying the Word) for a particular race. What athlete wouldn't? They would be crazy to turn up on the day without any preparation and expect to win or even finish the race. In the same way, we shouldn't plan our life without preparation. Prevention is better than cure. I am not saying that you will have complications if you don't prepare. You may have a "straight run" without problems of any kind, we pray you do. But why leave it to chance?
Every one of my pregnancies and labors were completely different (for the better). Prayer definitely played a major part in this. In each of my pregnancies there were different circumstances that needed to be prayed through but because I had prepared I had built my faith and was able to overcome not only what I had faced in my previous pregnancies and births but also some new situations.
Unfortunately there can be many both minor or major complications which can occur from time to time during childbearing. But I want to encourage you to not be passive but rather make a decision to stand on God's Word with prayer, then trust Him, knowing that through Him you can build your faith to overcome!
1 Cor 15:57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1 John 5:4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.
1 John 4:4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
Rom 8:37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
The promises of God will not manifest by themselves. You need to position yourself to receive them. When you have discovered what God’s Word says for your situation then basically you then need to make decisions and build your faith to receive what you are aiming for.
To build your faith in any area of ‘childbearing’ begin by covering yourself in prayer (it is never too late to start). Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in your prayers and impress on your heart anything that needs to be prayed for if necessary. A simple way to do this is by writing down your prayer points. To be more specific make a list of every thing you want to have happen and another list of what you do not want to have happen and pray about those areas. Also find scripture(s) to back up what you are praying for.
